What is Osseointegration in Dental Implantation?

Implant osseointegration is a dental term referring to the integration and functional connection between the implant and the bone tissue. When a tooth is lost or extracted, the bone begins to atrophy due to the lack of chewing load. The surface of the implant provides the correct stimulation to the bone tissue, preventing resorption. A high integration rate is achieved through the use of bio-inert materials that do not trigger immune responses (rejection) in the body. Additionally, a bioactive coating is used to facilitate rapid and reliable fusion between the implant and the bone.

Today, dental implants are considered one of the most sought-after solutions for prosthetics.

Previously, individuals with various risk factors (such as bruxism or diabetes) were often not considered candidates for treatment. Now, dental implantation is available to them as well. Immediately after the implant is placed, its stability is measured, providing a baseline for future comparison. How is the Diagnostic Procedure Performed?

The procedure is simple and takes very little time. Non-invasive stability measurement is carried out using the portable Osstell ISQ device, based on the Resonance Frequency Analysis (RFA) method. The vibration frequency indicates the Implant Stability Quotient (on a scale of 1–100). An implant with an ISQ of 70 or higher is generally considered stable.

To measure the ISQ, special single-use pins (SmartPegs) are screwed into the implant.
A measuring probe activates the pin contactlessly, sending an impulse to the implant and the surrounding bone.
The results are displayed on the screen as an ISQ (Implant Stability Quotient) value.
