This condition can lead to breastfeeding issues, difficulties pronouncing certain sounds, and even speech dysfunction. Furthermore, such an impairment can cause oral health problems, including dental misalignment, malocclusion (improper bite), gingivitis, and periodontitis. In this case, frenulectomy (tongue-tie release) is performed in children.

Symptoms indicating the need for a frenulectomy (tongue-tie clipping)

There are several symptoms that may indicate the need for a child, including a newborn, to undergo a frenulectomy:

breastfeeding problems (if the tongue-tie is too short, it makes latching onto the nipple and proper sucking difficult, leading to insufficient nutrient intake for the child);
speech impairments (with a shortened frenulum, the tongue cannot move freely in the oral cavity, causing difficulties in pronouncing certain sounds, which negatively affects speech development);
